Entangle

Entangle is named for a druid spell from D&D 5th edition. The colorway is shades of brilliant green, to represent all the plant life of the forest, with a touch of yellow for sunshine. Entangle is a beautiful tonal green, and would look amazing knitted or crocheted into an accessory, socks, or even a sweater.

Entangle will be available on all bases on July 1st.

Fireball

Who doesn’t love a good Fireball? Named for one of the most popular mage/wizard spells in Dungeons & Dragons, Fireball was one of the first colorways we created and experimented with.

Fireball is a speckled yarn that features the traditional fiery colors of red, orange and yellow. The speckles are a touch of jet black, inspired by the ash that is left behind after the Fireball spell is cast.

Fireball will be available on Rogue Fingering and Druid DK on July 1st.

The Journey So Far

Hello, and welcome to Critical Hit Dyes!

The team behind the dyeing is Jess and Meg, a pair of knitters and crafters from southern New England who love all things fantasy, and all things yarn. Critical Hit Dyes allows us to combine those two loves, while experimenting with color and technique, to bring you beautiful, hand-dyed, fantasy-inspired yarn.

When we aren’t hand-dyeing yarn, we are working with our good friends Tina and Drea, on Pardon My Stash, a podcast about knitting and the fiber arts. We have a blast talking about all things knitting, crochet, yarn and friendship. Join us!

About Us
Jess is your average, working member of society who uses their free time to delve into any and every hobby that catches a passing interest. This has led to a plethora of interests, the center of which has always been a draw to to the fantastical. Jess’s hobbies include fibre arts, art arts, theatre arts, wood arts, and dragons.

Meg is a high school history teacher who learned to knit in college, but only started branching into complicated patterns in the last two years, when she finally attempted to drop the perfectionism and started experimenting more. She is an avid yarn collector and enthusiast – hence the transition to dyer. When she’s not knitting, Meg also enjoys reading and writing fantasy books.

They live in their little home in central Connecticut with their adorable three-year old daughter, three cats – Tabitha (Tabby), Francis, and Tristan – and a spoiled fat guinea pig, Harper.

Our Goal
Critical Hit Dyes spawned from the desire to create colorways that paid tribute to the tabletop game Dungeons and Dragons. From there, we expanded our vision to include colorways inspired by all things fantasy – Lord of the Rings, Dragonheart, Vox Machina, and beyond. We are always looking for inspiration, and would love to hear from you if you have a favorite series you’d like to see come to life on our yarn. We hope that our yarns will inspire you, no matter how you use them – knitting, crochet, weaving, and beyond.
